The Cold Case Unit was originally established by Dr Cheryl Allsop and Ian McKim, Head of Criminology, in 2019, working in collaboration with Locate International to develop a practical way for students, community volunteers and investigative experts to work together on cold case investigations.
The ethos of the project is to help the families and victims in cold cases where otherwise they may not get the focused investigative help they need.
As a team we work on unsolved murders, long term missing people and unidentified found remains, both national and international cases. In so doing, students are gaining real world transferrable skills both on how to conduct investigations, and in problem solving more broadly.
The team also conduct research in all areas linked to cold cases, missing people and unidentified found remains.
